A frequently consistent scene-stealer on The Groundlings stage, Michael Churven takes the directorial reins offstage to deftly guide his amazingly funny cast of six (Samantha DeSurra, Chris Guerra, Ariane Price, Mary Scheer, Annie Sertich and Alex Staggs) to an evening of hilarity in GROUNDLINGS MIX TAPE. In a limited four-week run of Fridays and Saturday nights, GROUNDLINGS MIX TAPE features a Best of Sketch selection from past shows with a rotating cast. As in The Groundlings tradition, the writer of a particular sketch usually takes the lead, while the others give their all in support, in true ensemble form.

It was only a matter of time before I caught up with Greg to pick his musical brain, as I had already interviewed Matthew and Larry earlier.

I managed to lightly twist the arm of Larry to chat with me before rehearsing the next Friday/Saturday show GROUNDLINGS ROAD TRIP PARTY.

The world premiere of a brand-new, one-man musical will be the first musical to be performed in Southwark Playhouse's Little space.

The Groundlings' current laugh-packed Friday & Saturday night show WOLFGANG AMADEUS GROUNDLING had their sold-out house howling at their collective expertise in mining comedy gold from the most un-amusing of situations - divorce, alcoholism, being laid off, impotence, embarrassing parents. The talented Groundling members pretty much play everything straight with few punchlines, with but loads of truthfully funny circumstances.

To anyone who has not witnessed an Impro Theatre production, a word to the wise: you are about to experience a rare form of brilliance, sometimes seen in improvisation, but especially keen in Sondheim Unscripted, because it not only has an original book but music as well... totally in the style of Stephen Sondheim. A Sondheim composition is known for its incredible range of notes, strident chords, mixed rhythms, fugues, not to mention that his music amazingly conveys the themes or moods of the piece...to the letter. He is a unique composer, impossible to copy...well, Impro surely proves that statement wrong.
