Photo Flash: First Look at Red Fern Theatre's SINCE AFRICA

SINCE AFRICA, a new play by Mia McCullough about a Lost Boy of Sudan-- both lost in his native land and lost as he attempts to adjust to his new home in America - will be given its NY premiere following successful productions at San Diego's Old Globe, Philadelphia's InterAct, and Chicago Dramatists theatres with performances, starting February 20 and an official press opening on February 23 in a production by New York's Red Fern Theatre Company at The Theater at the 14th Street Y (344 E. 14 St. between 1st and 2nd Ave. in NYC). Following the success of last year's inaugural Storefront Playwright Project, the League of Chicago Theatres will again provide support and windowspace at Expo 72 for nearly 40 emerging and established playwrights to work on a current writing project in view of the public in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. From a large screen in a window facing the sidewalk, the public will be able to read what the playwright is writing and watch the creation of the next great Chicago play in real time. The Storefront Playwright Project will take place at Expo72, 72 E. Randolph St., in downtown Chicago, today, July 2 - 27, 2013, Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Steppenwolf to Host FIRST LOOK 101 and PROFESSIONALS' WEEKEND Initiatives, Summer 2013

Steppenwolf Theatre Company will host two initiatives giving behind-the-scenes looks at the process of developing and producing new plays for local theatergoers and theater professionals from around the country alike. As part of the eighth annual First Look Repertory of New Work, Steppenwolf continues First Look 101, a unique two-month experience from June 1 - August 10 that takes enrolled participants on a backstage journey through all aspects of the new play development process-from the first rehearsal to the final performance. In addition, Steppenwolf hosts a Professionals' Weekend, August 8 - 11, during which theater practitioners join Steppenwolf in conversation about new plays, and attend First Look productions and readings in addition to special industry events.
