Salsation Theatre Company Presents WORD UP! POETRY SLAM Tonight, 10/6

Salsation Theatre Company has announced a one night only engagement of WORD UP! POETRY SLAM at the Gorilla Tango Theatre Bucktown (1919 N Milwaukee Ave. Chicago, IL 60647) tonight, October 6th at 7:30pm. Salsation is producing their ongoing poetry slam with six Chicago area poets presenting personal pieces around the theme entitled "So What?! Keep Going!" With two rounds, six poets, and one winner, this event won't be your typical slam. Tickets are $10 and available at www.gorillatango.com or 773-598-4549.

The audience itself plays a large role in the atmosphere of the show as three audience members will be chosen as judges. Only the best poets move onto the next round. As a special twist, the audience will be asked to provide inspiration for the final two poets; those poets then improvise their final poems for the judges to be crowned the winner. The winner of this slam will be automatically invited to the next Word Up! showcase and win a cash prize.

"I wanted to write and say thanks for a great show. [We] really enjoyed the show. I thought your emcee was awesome and that the poets showed a great range of styles and content. I really enjoyed hearing all of their pieces. We'll keep you in mind for future poetry events," wrote William Dlugokeinski, Director of the Gates Center at Lake Forest College where Word Up! was recently performed.

Word Up! is produced and directed by Ensemble Member Ramon Charriez and Creative Associate Timothy "Kimo" Brien. Both of these artists are accomplished slam poets in the vibrant Chicago slam poetry scene.

Salsation was created in 1998 and became a non-for-profit theatre company in 2002. Cast members range from Brazilian, European, Mexican, and Puerto Rican backgrounds. The primary purposes of Salsation Theatre Company, NFP is the presentation and creation of comedic and other theatrical works which consider the role of Latinos in American society and related topics; and to inspire and educate Latinos and non-Latinos in the use of theatrical and other performing arts as a medium for self-expression.
