Lifelines Fall & Winter 2011/12 Kid & Family Events Begin

Rogers Park's award-winning Lifeline Theatre continues bringing educational opportunities to children.

WHAT:
Stories Come Alive! "The 13 Clocks" - Lifeline actors will read from James Thurber's "The 13 Clocks" and play drama games with children of all ages (parents welcome too). Lifeline's fall children's adaptation of "The 13 Clocks" runs at Lifeline Theatre from October 15 - December 4, 2011.

WHEN:
Saturday, October 8, 2011, 3-4 p.m.

WHERE:
Rogers Park Library, 2nd floor community room, 6907 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL
Parking available (street and lot); CTA accessible (Red Line Morse stop, then west to Clark; buses)

ADMISSION:

WHAT: 

Stories Come Alive! Workshops - Every Sunday at noon during the run of "The 13 Clocks" (between the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. performances), children and their parents can get up close and personal with the book behind the play with an interactive storytelling session, followed by on-your-feet theatre games to explore the characters, plot, and themes in the book. The experience is sure to make positive reading connections between children and books for years to come.

WHEN:
October 16, 23, and 30; November 6, 13, 20, and 27; and December 4, 2011, 12-1 p.m.

WHERE:
Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., Chicago, IL. Handicapped accessible.

WHAT:
Day After Thanksgiving Workshop: Spontaneous Stories - Improvisation is the basis of all theatre, and it's fun too! Through a series of games and exercises, actress and educator Amanda Rountree teaches youth ages 7-11 how to create spontaneous stories.

WHEN:
Friday, November 25, 2011, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

WHERE:
Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., Chicago, IL. Handicapped accessible.

TEACHER:
Amanda Rountree has been performing improvisational theatre professionally since 1992, teaching since 1998, and directing since 2002. Chicago audiences have seen her in Impress These Apes 2, Damascus Steel, Don't Spit the Water, and Soiree DADA: Shmukt die Hallen. She is a company member of WNEP and is a resident teaching artist for Lifeline Theatre and the Second City Training Center.

WHAT:
Stories Come Alive! "How To Survive A Fairy Tale" - Lifeline actors will read classic fairytales and play drama games with children of all ages (parents welcome too). Lifeline's winter children's play, "How To Survive A Fairy Tale" (a world premiere fractured fairy tale) runs at Lifeline Theatre from January 7 - February 26, 2012.

WHEN:
Saturday, December 17, 2011, 3-4 p.m.

WHAT: 

4th Annual Winter Drama Camp: Favorite Fairy Tales -In this mini-camp, youth ages 7-11 will come with their favorite fairy tales in mind and create an original play to connect them all together. Plus, campers each receive two complimentary tickets ($30 value) to Lifeline's winter KidSeries production, "How To Survive a Fairy Tale," which runs January 7- February 26, 2012.

WHEN:
December 27, 28, 29 and 30, 2011, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

WHERE:
Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., Chicago, IL. Handicapped accessible.

TEACHER:
Mechelle Moe is a founding member of The Hypocrites, and works as an actor, director and teaching artist. She has been featured at TimeLine (The Children's Hour, Not Enough Air, Paradise Lost), The Hypocrites (The Bald Soprano, Angels in America, The Glass Menagerie), and Court (What the Butler Saw). Mechelle received a BA in Theater and BA in Anthropology from the University of Illinois in Chicago, and was awarded a Joseph Jefferson Citation for Principal Actress and After Dark Award for her performance in Sophie Treadwell's Machinal.

WHAT:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Workshop: Creating Characters - Through games, gestures, and voice exercises, kids learn the basics of creating all kinds of theatrical characters. Actress and educator Julie Ganey leads youth ages 7-11.
