Guest Director Josie Rourke Stages
Twelfth Night
at Chicago Shakespeare Theater
March 29 – June 7, 2009
Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) concludes its 2008/09 subscription season with William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night staged by London’s Bush Theatre Artistic Director Josie Rourke. Set off the coast of Illyria, shipwrecked twins put this tale of mistaken identity and unlikely love into relentless motion. Alone in the world, Viola disguises herself as a boy and falls hopelessly in love with the Duke she serves, while he is enamored of the Countess Olivia–whose adoring gaze lands instead upon the Duke’s new page. Add to the mix a brooding steward in yellow stockings named Malvolio and the saucy Sir Toby, and the stage is set for Shakespeare’s most perfect comedy.
Casting as of press time: Karen Aldridge (Olivia), Michelle Beck (Viola), Joel Stanley Huff (Officer), Scott Jaeck (Sir Toby Belch), Ora Jones (Maria), Dan Kenney (Andrew Aguecheek), Ross Lehman (Feste), John Lister (Sea Captain/Priest), Mark Montgomery (Orsino), Cristina Panfilio (Gentlewoman), Edgar Miguel Sanchez (Valentine), Dan Sanders-Joyce (Fabian), Chris Sullivan (Antonio), Peterson Townshend (Sebastian) and Larry Yando (Malvolio)
