"DRUMLine Live," the energetic and vibrant new musical phenomenon, will dazzle audiences with an explosive show at The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now. Theatergoers will be treated to hot choreography and athletic feats performed by steppers, the rhythmic sounds of trumpets, and the speed and pulsating force of the drumline.

Don P. Roberts, musical director, was inspired by the hit 2002 movie "Drumline" starring Nick Cannon and Orlando Jones. Roberts adapted the band's original outdoor show to thrill audiences with a new version, to be performed live on stage. "DRUMLine Live" presents the sounds of the great brass past, including Earth, Wind and Fire and Tower of Power side-by-side with the hottest contemporary hip-hop and R&B. The "DRUMLine Live" cast, assembled from Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the country, is comprised of approximately 40 members who storm the stage for performances ranging from colorful, choreographed routines to heavy doses of drum riffs and cadences.

Roberts credits the 2002 movie for brining excitement and relevancy to a wide demographic, but promises the stage version of "DRUMLine Live" will be even more emotional and intense. "It's the rare show that can bring together the generation that relates to the Jackson Five or James Brown, with their kids or grandkids who listen to top 40," says Roberts. "It is also the type of show that people will want to see over and over again. Each time they see it, it will have a different musical and emotional effect."

"DRUMLine Live" opened to rave reviews in January 2009 and is currently on tour in North America, with additional worldwide engagements to be announced. The show is a welcome addition to The Center's diverse and world-class 2009 entertainment line-up.
