Steppenwolf to Present THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, 1/24-4/28; A CELEBRATION OF HAROLD PINTER Set for 2/10

Steppenwolf Theatre Company ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter in the Upstairs Theatre, at the helm of a Pinter play for the first time. The theater has been newly reconfigured by Pendleton with scenic designer Walt Spangler to bring the audience closer to the story by moving the stage to the center of the room. The Birthday Party begins previews January 24 (Opening night is February 3, 2013; Press performances are February 2 at 3pm and February 5 at 7:30pm) and runs through April 28 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). In conjunction with The Birthday Party, Steppenwolf is proud to announce a one-night only performance of A Celebration of Harold Pinter, performed by British actor Julian Sands, directed by ensemble member John Malkovich.

Final Casting Announced for BELLEVILLE at Steppenwolf

Casting is complete for Steppenwolf Theatre Company's season-closing production of Belleville by Amy Herzog, directed by Anne Kauffman. Chris Boykin and Cliff Chamberlain join the previously announced cast, ensemble members Alana Arenas and Kate Arrington. Belleville begins previews June 27, 2013 (Opening Night is July 7; Press Performances are July 6 at 3pm and July 9 at 7:30pm) and runs through August 25 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Tickets ($20 - $73) go on sale April 26, 2013 at 11am (prices are subject to change).

Casting is complete for Steppenwolf Theatre Company's upcoming production of Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party, under the direction of ensemble member Austin Pendleton. Ensemble member Kevin Anderson joins the previously announced cast: ensemble members Ian Barford, Francis Guinan, Moira Harris and John Mahoney with Sophia Sinise. The Birthday Party begins performances January 24, 2013 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Opening night is February 3, 2013; press performances are February 2 at 3pm and February 5 at 7:30pm. Tickets ($20 - $78) go on sale at a later date.

Steppenwolf's THE BOOK THIEF Extends for the Final Time - Now Through 11/11

Due to high demand for tickets, Steppenwolf Theatre Company adds three additional public performances to the world premiere of Markus Zusak'sThe Book Thief, adapted by Heidi Stillman, directed by Hallie Gordon, after selling out all school and public performances-including the previously announced extension. The production now closes on Sunday, November 11 and plays in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St); this is the final extension. Single tickets to the added performances are $20, and go on sale Wednesday, October 24 at 11am through Audience Services (1650 N Halsted St), 312-335-1650 and steppenwolf.org.

Presented as part of the citywide Now Is The Time initiative, and in partnership with Chicago Public Library's One Book, One Chicago program, The Book Thief features ensemble member Francis Guinan with Patrick Andrews, Amy J. Carle, Rob Fagin, Rae Gray, Dennis William Grimes, Nikki Klix, Ian Knox, Anthony-Jon LeSage, Clancy McCartney, Andy Monson, Mark Ulrich and Nicole Wiesner. The Book Thief runs October 16 - November 9, 2012 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St); the press performance is on October 21 at 3pm. Matinees Tuesday through Friday are reserved for school groups only, with Saturday and Sunday performances available to the public. Single tickets and tickets for school groups are currently on sale.
